This is the first design I’ve done for UT Press, part of the Recovering Languages and Literacies of the Americas series. In a simple design, it’s sometimes hard to tie the design in with the subject matter, and for this book, the fonts I used were the most important visual elements of the design for me. This book is about a text created by Spaniards about a native people they came into contact with when colonizing Mexico. The display font and the swashes available in the italic of the main text font made me think of old manuscripts.
