Cowboys and East Indians

This collection of short stories won a 2014 PEN Open Book award. I designed the cover and interior for the second printing. I worked closely with the author on this design because I really wanted her to be happy with the final product. The short stories are set in Wyoming and India, and while I wanted the design to address both East and West, I didn’t want to be too ham-fisted about it, so the typeface has a more Western feel. I knew this book really well before I designed it; I’d actually chosen it as my book club selection last year, so not only had I read the whole thing before designing it, I’d had an evening of discussion about it.
